About Millville
Millville is a small but growing town in Sussex County, Delaware. Its population is around 2,000, making it a perfect size for serene, laid-back vibes. Situated just minutes from beach towns like Ocean View and Bethany Beach, Millville offers residents the perfect blend of quiet suburban living and easy access to the coast.
The town was officially incorporated in 1906, with a population of just 206 people. However, European settlers had lived in the area for much longer. Millville grew around a steam-powered sawmill that was operated by Captain Peter Townshend.
Given its location near the Atlantic coastline and the Indian River Bay, the town became a center for agricultural products, lumber, and commercial fishing. The presence of lumber, grist, and sorghum mills eventually gave it the name of Millville.
Millville grew slowly over the years, with the population rising by just over 50 residents to 259 in the 2000 census. As of the 2020 census, however, Millville had grown to just under 2,000 residents. Its peaceful neighborhoods, proximity to beaches, and access to outdoor recreation have made it an increasingly popular place to live.
Residents of Camden enjoy Camden Park, which has playgrounds, picnic areas, a walking and jogging path, pickleball and bocce courts, and an indoor community center. They can also boat, fish, kayak, and paddleboard along nearby waterways, or spend the day at one of the nearby Atlantic Coast beaches.
